when I yawn
You cannot explain this, and I don’t think I should even attempt to explain it. Whenever I yawn, and it sounds ludicrous, I at least have a 55% chance of triggering a very vague, and eerie image. Frankly, I cannot tell you if my mind made it, or my eyes seen it, and since I cannot tell which exactly was responsible, I will say to you now both my eyes and my mind created it. Do you know the feeling and the anatomy of a very good, satisfying yawn? Do you know the feeling of your eyes when you yawn - when you feel them almost sliding down into your sockets and falling down your throat? Or perhaps you can recall the time you saw the inside of your socket. There, you see darkness. It is the darkness latching onto you after getting up too quickly from a nap or a chair. It is the darkness, (perhaps darkness isn’t even the right word,), a void perhaps, commencing about, on the verge of sleep while you stand straight at a register, or slouch on a chair in the classroom. It is the void of shutting your eyes, squeezing them so hard, before you start to see a black pupil in the middle of a yellow orb. Akin to this method is a void occurring when one plasters his face against a pillow or a blank, early in the morning, or late into the night, when the eyes and mind have weakened of alertness.
There arises the gold sun and the slit of vertical black in its middle, like the cut from a black blade. But the gold ever glows. It expands, then contracts. It is the void of staring at a screen for quite too long and gazing up toward the sky and the bright blue outside calling your name since that early morning you promised yourself you’d enjoy the air out of. Or is it the void after you stare too long at the sun and look downward to the green grass? Is it the daze of staring at a blank wall? Most often then not however, a bright light, is always involved, before the darkness starts creeping around the eyes. In the mind, this void, like a black hole empties your mind, tugging on the temples, and encircling your eyes, as if it is trying to thin out any bright energy source desiring to leave or enter in your head. Thus, when all is managed: a very bright light, a creeping crawling void, and finally the thinning and stretching, and eventual closure of any gateway or exit towards some part of your consciousness by a simple yawn, the following occurs. So I stood there that day behind a register. The sun beamed through the wide windows of the front of the grocery store. I achieved around 4 hours of sleep. And I sort of stood there in a daze neither looking nor ignoring. As I did, the void thickened around the borders of my sight, I yawned, thinning my ears, and my eyes, before I saw it then and there.
It was the blurry sight of a wooden room with a window beaming in a huge ray of light joining the dust and in some ways as if light was dust itself. I still yawn, but I haven’t seen an image since.
I don’t know what to make of it.
